Kabhi Kabhi Aditi Zindagi, Khwaja and Jai Ho are all time favorites.

Here are some of the songs that ruled the Hindi film music charts in 2008.

Kabhi Kabhi Aditi Zindagi

Loosely translated as 'Aditi, sometimes life seems like a dream' the song has some inspiring feel good lyrics that are well articulated by singer Rashid Ali. AR Rehman composed this peppy soundtrack from last year's blockbuster Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. It was beautifully picturized on the lead pair Imraan Khan and Genelia D Souza. The album had several numbers that found their way into the Top 10 lists.

Jee Le

This dance number from the film U, Me and Hum also steadily climbed the charts. The Adnan Sami-Shreya Ghoshal duet was picturized on the lead pair Ajay Devgan and Kajol. However it did not attain the number one spot, possibly due to the fact that the film was not exactly a hit. It also suffers from some mundane lyrics that offset the effect a racy composition by music director Vishaal Bharadwaj.

Khwaja

It appears that AR Rehman ruled the Hindi film music scene in 2008. He composed and did the vocals for this Sufi creation from the historical Jodha Akbar. Although the film had other notable hits in Jash-ne-bahaara, Azeem O Shaan Shahenshah, In lamhon, Khwaja was critically acknowledged to bear the stamp of musical genius. The picturization on Hrithik Roshan who added a dance like trance added to the effect.

Jai Ho

Although not a Bollywood film, Slumdog Millionaire was based in Mumbai. Director Danny Boyle added a Bollywood style song and dance number at the end during the credits. Critics and many AR Rahman fans pointed out that this was not one of his finest works. In fact, Lagaan, which was nominated in the Best Foreign Film category at the Oscars way back in 2001, had far better compositions, but at that time was unnoticed in the international media.

However Jai Ho captured the breakneck pace of life in Mumabi. The movie shot into prominence once it swept the Golden Globes. AR Rahman received two Oscars, one for best film music and the other for best composition. he subsequently performed the song at the Oscar ceremony, but the original singer Sukhwinder Singh was not present. Nether were the female voices Tanvi Shah or Mahalaxmi Iyer. Rahman subsequently collaborated with the PussyCat Dolls in an English version You Are My Destiny. Other popular numbers from the album include Latika's theme.
